8/22/03 Old Goat, Bette's husband, is our neighbor and friend. He has been hiking the Appalachian Trail for the last seven or eight years and this summer hiked the 100-mile Wilderness in Maine. He has to hike only a section of trail in New Hampshire and Maine to complete the entire AT. After four days off we climbed into Old Goat's car at 7:30am. He drove us up to Appalachian Gap, took our picture, and wished us luck. We could tell he wished he could join us.
