8/14/03 After a 5-day break for rain (three days at home and two days at the Hancock Hotel), we were ready to resume our hike. This was our longest hiking break and we were surprised at how antsy we were to get back on the trail. We really missed it. During our time off we added lightweight camp shoes to our equipment. We were out front of our townhouse at 7:30am sharp just as our neighbor Bette (wife of AT hiker Old Goat) came out of hers. She drove us to Middlebury Gap, ironically the same place she drove us to last year when we did one of our overnight hikes. We were on the trail at 8:20am heading north and remembering last year's hike with Marty and BJ over this same trail.
