Purifying Water at Cowles Cove | ||
8/22/03 The water source at Cowle's Cove was a good one and was very close to the shelter and our campsite.
As the temperature dropped, we ate our dinner and went to "tent" cold.
We've gotten into a nice little routine when we get into camp. While Rough makes several trips to filter water Tumble puts up the tent or "mouse" net and lays out our mats and sleeping bags inside. Rough likes his unzipped 3/4 of the way. When he's done filtering Tumble finds a flat spot and sets up our cooking space defined by her bandana. We choose a meal and Tumble starts cooking it. While it cooks we fill our water bladders for tomorrow, sort out our snacks for the next day, empty all snack leftovers and wrappers from our fanny packs into our food bag, and hang the food bag, either from a tree or a shelter hook. By the time we get sorted our, dinner is ready. We each have a spoon and eat out of our two piece cook set. Afterwards we drink protein powder laced with KoolAid and sugar for dessert. Rough rinses out the cook set while Tumble breaks down the stove and stows away the "kitchen." Depending on how late it is or how interesting the conversation we talk with other hikers. Then we floss and brush and get into our sleeping bags to change into our long johns. We leave our fuel and water outside the tent. Everything else that we're not wearing or that isn't hanging in our food bags, is stuffed into our backpacks to use as pillows. By the time the sun goes down around 7:30 PM we're drifting off to sleep.
