8/14/03 Just past Skyline we came to a mud pit that spanned the trail with no walk-around or helpful rocks or logs to hop across. Someone had tossed dead evergreen branches across the pit and we gingerly tiptoed over them with our boots sinking slowly into the mud. We spent quite a while here trying to figure out how to get through without disappearing.
