7/22/03 Standing in the shelter with Molly from Huntington, VT (one of the "Two Girls from Vermont" hiking duo). We spent our first night in a shelter here because of all the rain. We had the bottom right-side bunk and Rough kept bumping his head because of his stiff neck. Also he got leg cramps while in his sleeping bag and grimaced in pain. He thinks he's either dehydrated or his muscles are not used to the long periods of exercise. We shared the shelter with Poncho and his dog Sage, Eric, an AT SoBo hiker named Ashley, and Matt. The pump handle on our water filter broke due to all the sediment from the nearby stream so we have a problem that we'll need to solve tomorrow. Several other hikers experienced clogged filters. During the night AT hiker Poncho's dog Sage made the rounds and kept everyone on lower bunks awake by poking his wet nose into our faces.
