8/23/03 Tumble is so good at this. After putting up the tent we decided we needed to get into the sun and in a lee spot to cook dinner, so we went down to the shelter where others had arrived. A father and son with their dog Ella were there and a family of three with two more dogs showed up. The barefoot hiker and his girlfriend passed through on their way to Hump Brook Tenting Area since there we had the only tent site available. A couple more guys came by looking for tent sites too and moved on. Another father and son also came into the shelter to spend the night. After dinner we tried to make conversation with them, but no one seemed interested. They were all day hikers and don't seem as interested in one another as thru-hikers. So we gave up and went back to our tent.
