7/23/03 The trail shimmied through a split rock before gaining 1,000 feet of elevation in another 1.6 miles. We hiked on and on looking for the Nauheim shelter and then Tumble saw her first "shelter mirage." When she realized it wasn't real, she lay down in the middle of the trail to rest. Rough read the elevation on his watch and determined we were very close to the shelter so Tumble bounced up and off we went.
