Packing Up the Tent in Cold Weather | ||
8/24/03 A howling wind kept us awake and we were very cold. We slept with ALL our clothes on. Tumble wore her fleece mittens on her feet and looked like "Flipper Girl" with the thumbs sticking out the sides. She got up during the night to drop the rainfly lower over the tent to provide more insulation, but the wind flapped right on through. We learned from the GMC caretaker that the wind gusts were in the 40mph range.
We got up at 6:30am and were so cold we had trouble thinking clearly and working our hands. It took longer than usual to break camp and pack up. We wore our mittens and hats, but kept on shivering. It was so windy Tumble had to tie her hat on over her fleece cap to keep it from blowing away. |
