Chatting With LT Hiker Platinum
Chatting With LT Hiker Platinum

8/15/03 Platinum will finish the LT tomorrow at age fourteen, the youngest unsupervised person to through-hike the LT. The shelter was small, but they squeezed in one of two air mattresses they blew up with a battery powered pump that weighed at least ten pounds. They spared no luxuries including pillows, blankets, and full jars of peanut butter, and didn't mind the weight. We had dinner and good conversation before working on our journal. Seems we have lots to talk about during the day and keep saying to one another, "We gotta remember to put that in the journal tonight," but by the time we sit down to write it, we're too exhausted to do more than put down sketchy notes. It's also hard to remember what we were saying or thinking during oxygen debt. We also tend to forget all those bumps, bruises, and bites once we put cream on them and get into our sleeping bags.
