7/24/03 After a steep climb up rock steps we arrived at Goddard Shelter. We shared this shelter with Nightwalker, an AT hiker. While we were eating dinner we could clearly see dark clouds moving in, the temperature dropped sharply, and the winds began howling around the shelter and bending the trees. We felt the first drops of the threatening rain while washing our cookpot and scurried back to the shelter from where we safely watched the rain slanting horizontally across the front of the shelter and blowing over the mountains.
