Story Spring Shelter | ||
7/25/03 We were greeted by Zap Man (center, standing) and Sparky (left, sitting). We were too tired to tent, so we set up in the shelter again. We never expected to use the "mouse" net this much. We wanted to tent as much as possible. We had chili for dinner which Rough rated an A+. We're still bummed about having to wait four hours to drink water and having to carry the extra weight of filtered water to top off our water reservoirs during the day. We were joined in the shelter by Paladin (right, sitting) who swung his Hennesey hammock between two trees near the shelter, tipped back a mini-bottle of whiskey, puffed on a cigar, and amused us with his southern accent and funny stories. Chief also joined us. He keeps his trail journal on a PDA and uploads it to his wife when he gets to a phone and she posts it to the Internet for him. Cool. Zap Man and Sparky put up an MSR "bug" net at the other end of the shelter. Pooh Bear, an AT weekend section hiker, joined us after putting up her tent nearby. Hungry Hiker, from Israel, was the last to slip into the shelter and went to sleep on the shelter floor in his sleeping bag with a bug net over his head. |
