Stratton Pond: North Shore Trail | ||
7/26/03 When we got to Stratton Pond we by-passed the shelter and headed for the tenting area a half mile around the eastern side of the pond to the north shore. But first we had to go west .2 m to filter water from a spring in a mosquito infested spot. Our ten miles hiking for the day stretched even further as we added .2m to filter and another .2m back to the trail and then another .5 to the tenting area. That added another .9 to our 10.6 mile hiking day. After filtering we had to carry the water, including the dundo (visible in Tumble's left hand), along the rocky, muddy, puncheon lined shore and over a log bridge teetering on the brink of collapse. |
