Descending into App Gap
Descending into App Gap

8/17/03 As soon as Tumble's feet hit the pavement at App Gap she stuck out her thumb and a little red car chugging up the hill stopped to pick us up. Tumble sat in the hatchback with the packs and Rough squeezed into the passenger seat. The driver, a son of the Maynard family of Maynard Farms, cheered us with bright conversation during the three mile ride to the Battleground. Maynard Farms is one of our favorite landmarks on the way to Waterbury. Tumble always looks to see if the cows are in the barn or in the field. And she loves the smell!! "Maynard" thought that was funny. He dropped us off at 4:45pm. We have now completed 162 miles of our end-to-end hike and have 114 miles to go. We propped up our throbbing legs and relished Chinese food while watching Monk. Off to bed early.
