Rough and Tumble Vermont's Long Trail 2003
Into the Cold Wind on the Forehead
8/28/03 Slowly we made our way toward the summit of Mansfield's Forehead. The mist still obscured our destination and limited our visibility. We'd look up and see a line of trees about 200 feet ahead and start for it only to have it give way to another ridge of trees that would emerge out of the mist beyond as we got closer. We got some relief from the wind by being on the leeward side of the mountain. Rough picked some wild blueberries and Tumble gobbled them up. How clever that blueberries, known to improve balance, grow right where we need them most. |
