8/30/03 We walked down the road from where we exited the trail two days ago to where it crosses the road and climbs up the Elephant's Head Trail, now part of the Long Trail. We had a little trouble finding the turn into the woods "at the end of the picnic area" and some hikers tried to direct us to the old Long Trail, but we eventually found the trail at the SOUTH end of the picnic area. Specifying which end of the picnic area in the LT Guide would be a great help. There were lots of Labor Day weekend picnickers staking out their territories as we passed through the area. Marty, BJ, and Michael will join us for the 15-mile stretch to Johnson.
