8/3/03 We reached the Sherbune Pass Trail at Jungle Junction. Until recently this trail was the LT and it leads past Pico Peak and then directly to the Inn at Long Trail on Route 4. A couple of years ago the LT was relocated around the west side of Pico to avoid problems with ski area development and the trail now reaches Route 4 one mile west of the Inn. Many hikers take the "short cut" but, being the purists that we are, we stayed on the Long Trail all the way. We planned to hitch the mile east to the Inn.
