Rough and Tumble Vermont's Long Trail 2003
View of Chittenden Reservoir
8/6/03 For about a mile and a quarter after leaving camp we hacked our way through stinging nettles and thorny raspberry bushes that formed enmeshed gauntlets that reached above our heads and down to our feet. Long pants and shirts did not protect us from scratches and stings as we pressed through the tangles. It was hard to see the trail and we slowed considerably. We wanted to make good time so we could get to David Logan shelter before the expected afternoon deluge. We pushed on, not that there were any places to stop and rest, but through the trees we could occasionally see the Chittenden Reservoir below. |
